34 Kaiwharawhara Rd small-min.jpgA two-level industrial property in Kaiwharawhara has been sold by JLL. The sale was negotiated by JLL agents Jarrod Strong and John McKenzie.

The 1,265sqm site at 34 Kaiwharawhara Rd was bought by NZ Cleaning Supplies, an Auckland-based company which distributes cleaning products and equipment to a range of commercial, industrial and small business customers.

After a successful 30 years in Auckland, director Anne Surridge is bringing her business to the capital.

“The company is currently undergoing massive restructuring, with the opening of a new branch of NZ Cleaning Supplies in Wellington.

As a born and bred Wellingtonian, it almost feels like a “welcome home” for me,” Surridge says. “With a base in the capital, we hope that the central location will give us greater access to our clients, allowing us to continue to provide the best service we can.”

NZ Cleaning Supplies has several nationwide accounts, with a strong portfolio of clients which include government, corporation and private industries.

The company stocks their own brand of cleaning supplies which are manufactured in Otaki, and offers a delivery service as well as allowing clients to purchase products onsite. As a “one-stop shop” for cleaning supplies, Surridge says finding a convenient location was essential.

“A lot of our customers are cleaners coming in from the nightshift to pick up supplies for the next day. As they are often exhausted, it is important from a customer service point of view that we are centrally located.”

Strong says that the accessibility of 34 Kaiwharawhara Road is its major drawcard.

“Kaiwharawhara Road is essentially at the crossroads of the Wellington region, within a 10-minute drive from Porirua and the Hutt Valley, and five minutes from Wellington CBD. Located just off a main arterial route, NZ Cleaning Supplies will be perfectly positioned to service the wider region.”

Despite initially intending to lease during the growth-stage of the business, Surridge’s decision to purchase the property reflects the current strength of Wellington’s economy, McKenzie says.

“As an owner-occupier, NZ Cleaning Supplies was able to take advantage of the current low borrowing rates to purchase 34 Kaiwharawhara Road. Weighing up the relative costs of both renting and purchasing in the current market, the latter proved to be the most economical.”

Surridge adds that while she came to JLL with an idea of what she wanted, she soon realised that this did not fully meet the needs of NZ Cleaning Supplies.

“It was important for us to find the right property for our business. Jarrod and John were able to interpret the needs of my business and translate them into a property which was within my budget. I’ve been very happy with their service.”

NZ Cleaning Supplies opens its Wellington branch on November 1. For more information on NZ Cleaning Supplies, go to or contact 0800 2 NZCLEAN (0800 2 69253).
