Retailers sought for new space at Devonport Wharf

JLL and Auckland Transport are looking for new tenants for the next stage of the wharf refurbishment

Devonport Wharf Credit Getty Images small-min.jpgFollowing the successful opening of the all-day eatery Devon on the Wharf at Devonport Wharf, JLL is now searching for the right retailer to continue the momentum for the second stage of the wharf’s refurbishment, being the reconfigured ‘Central Hall’. 

JLL retail specialists Chloe Brooks and Chris Beasleigh are running an RFP process to find parties interested in leasing the 555sqm space, which can be taken as a whole or split to suit. Applications close on November 16.

“Auckland Transport is looking for an operator who can activate this space with a retail offering that will serve locals, ferry commuters, day-trippers and tourists alike. JLL believes one option could be something like a food market ‘destination’, which could work very well here,” Brooks says. “Artisan producers such as a butcher, baker, fishmonger and cheesemaker could co-exist quite happily in this space.”

“We believe take-home meal options and fresh ingredients for Devonport locals coming home on the ferry would be popular. Day-trippers to Devonport would love to be able to collect picnic ingredients on their way into Devonport village, Cheltenham Beach or North Head,” she says. “We are interested to hear from any retail operator who has an interesting proposal for the space.”

“Another option could be to split the space into a number of smaller individual retail units, creating a tenancy mix that suits the environment and demographic,” Beasleigh says. 

Chief AT Metro Officer Mark Lambert says the refurbishment of Devonport Wharf will enhance the ferry experience and revitalise the iconic waterfront destination. 

“One of the key objectives of the AT Metro Retail Strategy is to enhance the customer experience by providing better amenity at our facilities for public transport users and to attract current non-public transport users. 

"Devon on the Wharf and the surrounding retail space will help build Devonport Wharf as a centre of activity to the benefit of locals, visitors and commuters alike.” ​
