JLL sells prominent town house on unique island site

A substantial Christchurch town house on a significant development site at 2 Bangor Street has been sold.

JLL sales and investment agent Chris Harding marketed the property for sale by tender. 

“Given the demand for new housing in the region, the property attracted interest from purchasers who saw this as a fantastic opportunity for a multi-unit residential development or a substantial, quality town house with a large garden.”

While the purchaser will look to develop the site in the longer term, Harding says that for now the house and outbuildings will remain and will likely be rented out, perhaps as holiday accommodation. 

The property is situated within the Four Avenues and is bordered by Bangor Street, Kilmore Street, Oxford Terrace and newly designated parkland. It is opposite the well-known Pomeroy’s Old Brewery Inn. The area is now known as the Avon Loop Precinct.   

2 Bangor Street is zoned Central City Residential which is characterised by a variety of residential environments. Medium to high density is prescribed throughout the zone with a maximum building height of 11 metres.

The property features a 450m² architect-designed house built in 2001, set on established grounds. The house is designed for entertaining, with a large kitchen and a floor-to-ceiling glass window that can be operated electrically, opening the dining room onto the terrace. 

The house contains an apartment with sitting room, double bedroom and shower room, which has its own external access. 

A separate building has a four-garage car with an 80sqm two-bedroom flat above it.
