Following the near completion of the new boardwalk and wharf entrance, request for proposals are being called for Devonport Wharf’s new hospitality spaces. Property consultancy JLL have commenced a marketing campaign to lease the high-end premises on behalf of Auckland Transport and are requesting proposals for tenancy at the iconic waterfront destination by Monday the 15th June 2015.

This Auckland Transport project has the goals of improving the Devonport urban environment, stimulating visits to Devonport Wharf and reinforcing the already vibrant retail strip in Devonport to make it the new place to be seen. As part of this strategy, the north end of Devonport Wharf will soon benefit from a modern boardwalk and refurbished wharf entrance which extends from the main street, interfacing with the existing retail operators and adding a huge amount to the amenity of the precinct. As a continuation of this exciting transformation of Devonport Wharf, the newly developed space adjacent to the wharf entrance, has been designed by Jasmax, and will soon be available for occupancy.

Chris Beasleigh, national director of retail sales and leasing at JLL who is marketing the premises along with Chloe Brooks, retail sales and leasing specialist at JLL says, “This is an exceptional opportunity for food and beverage tenants to tap into this previously underutilised but iconic waterfront destination and capitalise on the high foot traffic nature of the location. Devonport is an extremely busy commuter and tourist location and Auckland transport are committed to igniting Devonport Wharf into a new retail and hospitality hotspot that reflects the area and becomes a destination in its own right.”

Devonport Wharf is located in the seaside village of Devonport, just a ten minute ferry ride from Auckland’s CBD. Devonport’s ferry terminal supports a high income demographic and sees roughly 2 million people passing through every year made up of tourists and daily commuters alike. For the right operator, this presents a fantastic opportunity to provide the local market with a funky and convenient offering that will become a part of their daily routine.
Direct ferries to Waiheke Island also leave from the wharf and feeder buses serve the terminal, car parking is also available.

Brooks says, “Stage one of the overall revamp of Devonport Wharf is to provide 200sqm of prime hospitality space. The spaces on offer have fully glazed facades that face north-east out onto the new boardwalk and will open onto the wharf’s internal walkway giving the future tenants dual frontage. We are offering flexible options with the ability to cater for one larger tenant or up to three smaller tenants. There is also an additional 65sqm of external space available which is ideal for ancillary outdoor seating.”

Beasleigh adds, “Devonport Wharf provides a unique retail offering drawing inspiration from the activation of transport wharfs globally such as Sydney’s Manly Wharf. JLL are targeting food and beverage providers that will enhance the attractiveness of and bring people into the area, improve the local’s daily commute and incorporate the special character of Devonport. This is stage one, to set the scene, future stages will follow in due course. ”
