Graduate ValuerValuation & Advisory, Research & Consultancy
After graduating from Lincoln University in 2012, I joined another valuation company and about a year ago, I decided to join JLL. My role is split between the Valuation and Research.
In Valuation I work with a team of eight which is made up of five registered valuers and three graduates. I'm one of the graduates working under registered valuers who have a minimum of 20 years' experience each – this is invaluable since I'm gaining experience and working towards becoming a registered valuer in 2016.
We have full coverage of the market from residential through to large scale commercial and industrial properties which provides the ability to gain experience in a number of sectors. This has been key in the lead up to registration.
I am also fortunate to work on the Research and Consultancy side of the business which is a varied role that involves consulting work on a number of Christchurch projects along with presenting to clients. I'm writing market commentaries and manage the local vacancy surveys. I enjoy this role because it requires a lot of cross over into the agency, project management and TR business lines and requires a certain amount of outside the square thinking.
I studied at Lincoln University for three years and came out with a Commerce Degree majoring in Property Valuation. The degree is fairly specialised compared to other commerce branches and has been mostly applicable to the day to day valuation work I am now carrying out.
Working at JLL has presented me with a number of opportunities for career growth and exposure within the Christchurch market. The people I work with are experts in their fields who are prepared to pass on their knowledge.
